WWDC 2021 Predictions

Posted on Tue, 25 May 2021

As WWDC 2021 approaches us on June 7, 2021, there is an influx of rumors that arise on the internet. Compared to predictions, rumors are a lot worse.

A rumor could make you believe that a certain thing might actually come, but might never show up. However, a prediction is told up-front to not keep any hopes.

Last year, Apple mainly focussed on MacOS Big Sur, as one the most revolutionary changes in macOS in years. However, any change comes with its consequences. It led to numerous issues/bugs within systems among people and much "argument" within the Apple Fan-boys team!

1. macOS 12

My prediction for macOS this year would be a fix-up year for Apple. Just like after we had macOS Sierra, then to improve/tune the performance of Sierra we got macOS High Sierra, I am expecting something along those lines.

Its been a trend in Apple to have a release coming after a big release to improve and tune it. We also saw this when iOS 11 was released, it had many bugs in it and slowed some phones down even. However, Apple came back with iOS 12 to tune its performance.

A prediction for a name might be either like High Big Sur or something like Deep Sea.

2. iOS 15

The amount of iOS releases we got in the past year has shown that the developer team has been hard at work. But don't let that trick us into thinking that this year might be a dull one.

My prediction would be that this year we could maybe expect some good stuff to come around. As we saw when iOS 12 was released, Apple didn't leave us hanging for macOS that year. Instead, we got macOS Mojave, which had dark-mode support.

So if we were to reverse my theory, we should get some new design maybe this year around. I am predicting some of these changes:

  • Improved Homescreen
  • Some new icons
  • Redesigned Phone App and Messages

3. iPadOS 15

I have some HUGE hopes for iPadOS this WWDC. Since the addition of the M1 chip, there is no way Apple will leave this operating system unchanged. Probably some big multitasking improvement and making it kinda bind with MacOS.

Conclusion

While I may not have covered everything we could except, but these are the big three that people are usually looking forward to. Have a great day!
